Congresswoman Napolitano and Other Prominent Speakers
to Participate in Annual WateReuse Symposium
ALEXANDRIA, VA – The 21st Annual WateReuse Symposium will feature numerous prominent speakers, including Representative Grace F. Napolitano (D-CA) who will deliver the keynote address. The Symposium will be held September 10-13, 2006 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood, CA. The theme is Stars of the Future: Reuse and Desalination.
Representative Napolitano, who serves as Ranking Member of the House Water and Power Subcommittee, joined U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) in introducing H.R. 5768, Reclaiming the Nation's Water Act, in the U.S. House of Representatives on July 12. The bill aims to promote and encourage local water recycling, reclamation, and desalination projects in Southern California and throughout the Western United States.
The congresswoman will be joined on the opening session panel by Jeff Kightlinger, General Manager of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California; J. Michael Read, President of the Water Environment Federation (WEF); Andrew Richardson, Immediate Past-President of the American Water Works Association (AWWA); and Pick Talley, President of the WateReuse Association.
Presented by the WateReuse Association and cosponsored by AWWA and WEF, this year’s Symposium features a record 123 presentations, four facility tours, four panel discussions, two receptions, an awards luncheon, and an exhibit hall. Technical sessions will be devoted to stimulating and diverse topics such as micropollutants, desalination, indirect potable reuse, operational issues, and global water reuse.
One of the highlights of the event is a Legislative Outlook Session that addresses a unique blend of both national issues and specific problems faced by the American West. Panelists include Kathy Copeland, Associate Director for Natural Resources at the White House Council on Environmental Quality; Josh Johnson of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee; Richard Harris of Nossaman Guthner, Knox, and Elliot; and Eric Sapirstein, the WateReuse Association’s lobbyist.
