The mission of the California Section of the WateReuse Association is to promote responsible stewardship of California's water resources by maximizing the safe, practical, and beneficial use of recycled water and by supporting the efforts of the of WateReuse Association.
WateReuse California Appoints Managing Director
As part of its ongoing reorganization plan, the WateReuse California Board of Trustees announced that Dave Smith, Ph.D., has agreed to serve as Managing Director. In this newly created position, Dr. Smith will report to the Board of Trustees and lead the day-to-day affairs of WateReuse California. Dr. Smith will actively manage legislative and regulatory initiatives in conjunction with the Board, committees, and Regulatory Advocate Roberta Larson and Legislative Advocate Richard Harris. Dr. Smith has a strong technical background in water quality and recycled water issues. For more information, click here.
California Section Produces Booklet for Elementary Students
The California Section of the WateReuse Association has teamed up with the Water Education Foundation to produce a 16-page booklet that teaches upper elementary students how water is recycled. The workbook, called Give Water a Second Chance…Recycle It!, provides background information on the process of recycling water and its similarity to the water cycle, as well as the need for recycled water. It includes engaging double-page activities such as a decoding game about the parts of the water “re-cycle,” mazes through a wastewater treatment plant, online explorations of wastewater microbe life cycles, activities to identify uses for recycled water, and an experiment about salts dissolved in water and the challenges for water recycling.

The manual has been prepared to convey the general rules, regulations, and guidelines regarding the safe introduction and use of recycled water for landscape irrigation in Los Angeles County and other areas in the State of California.
