Early Registration Discounts Expire July 26 for 25th Annual WateReuse Symposium

The WateReuse Association will celebrate 25 years of helping communities solve critical water supply issues during the 25th Annual WateReuse Symposium at the historic Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington DC on September 12-15. Attendees that register by July 26 will save up to $100. The Annual WateReuse Symposium is the premier conference devoted to sustaining water supplies through water reuse and desalination.

Gov. Schwarzenegger Issues Statement Regarding the Water Supply Act of 2010

Amid strong opposition to a $11.1 billion water bond (Proposition 18), California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently said he will work with the Legislature to postpone the controversial initiative until 2012 to keep the measure viable. The California Legislature passed legislation in 2009 that included $1 billion for water recycling and desalination projects. The package also included a bond measure that was to be placed on the November 2010 ballot for approval.

Registration is open for the 25th Annual WateReuse Symposium, which will be held September 12-15, 2010 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC. The Annual WateReuse Symposium is the premier conference devoted to sustaining water supplies through water reuse and desalination. Presented by the WateReuse Association and cosponsored by the American Water Works Association and the Water Environment Federation, the Symposium will feature more than 100 presentations, pre-conference workshops, and an exhibit hall.

WateReuse Accepting Nominations for 2010 Awards

The WateReuse Association is accepting nominations for the 2010 WateReuse Awards to be presented on September 13, 2010 during the 25th Annual WateReuse Symposium in Washington, DC. The Annual WateReuse Awards provide industry recognition for successful projects, products, and individuals that have made significant contributions to advancing water reuse and/or desalination. The awards typically recognize projects that advance alternative sources of water supply or offer a novel approach to meeting local water needs.

USDA Offers $4.5 Million to Study Drought, Recycled Water

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is offering about $4.5 million in grants for research on reducing the impacts of drought and improving recycled water quality for agricultural use under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) program. Under AFRI, the USDA will make competitive grants for fundamental and applied research, extension, and education to address food and agricultural sciences in six priority areas. The application deadline for grants in the Agricultural Water Science program is May 19, 2010.

Bureau of Reclamation Seeking Comments on Draft Title XVI Criteria

The Bureau of Reclamation is accepting comments on the draft criteria for the Title XVI Water Recycling and Reuse program through April 16, 2010. These funding criteria will be used for the fiscal year 2011 Title XVI funding opportunity as outlined the President's budget request released in February. The Title XVI program provides federal funding for water reuse and desalination projects in the western United States.

Desalination Plants Open in Sydney, Florida Keys

February 3, 2010

New desalination plants in Sydney, Australia and in the Florida Keys began operating recently to help communities meet water supply needs. Sydney's new wind-powered seawater desalination plant opened January 28 and has the ability to generate as much as 250 million liters of water each day. The brackish water desalination plant in the Florida Keys started delivering water January 21 and has a capacity of six million gallons per day.

The 2010 WateReuse California Annual Conference will be held March 7-9 at the Paradise Point Resort & Spa in San Diego, CA. Attendees that register by February 1, 2010 will save up to $100 on registration fees. The conference is designed for individuals, organizations, and agencies that are associated with the design, management, operation, and use of water recycling and desalination facilities and projects. Abstracts Due January 25 for Annual WateReuse Symposium

The WateReuse Association is accepting abstracts for technical presentations during the 25th Annual WateReuse Symposium to be held September 12-15, 2010 in Washington, DC. The Annual Symposium is the world's preeminent conference devoted to sustaining water supplies through water reuse and desalination. To be considered for a technical presentation, individuals or companies must submit an abstract by January 25, 2010.
